Getting to Know Your Orlando Stone
Countertops:
Granite Countertops
Orlando Granite countertops and granite tile are one of the most
commonly used surfaces in home construction and home remodeling
projects. It is also very popular in hotels, malls and office
buildings. Using the correct granite cleaner, granite sealer,
and granite care products are essential to preserve the natural
beauty of this unique surface.
Igneous stones such as granite are mainly formed through
volcanic material such as magma. Underneath the Earths surface,
liquid magma cooled and solidified. Mineral gases and liquids
penetrated into the stone and created new crystalline formations
with various colors.
Granite: Primarily made of Quartz (35%), Feldspar (45%) and
Potassium. Usually has darker colors. Granite contains very
little calcite, if any. Provides a heavy crystalline and
granular appearance with mineral grains. Orlando granite is a
very hard material and easier to maintain than marble, yet, it
is still porous and will stain. There are different types of
granite depending on the percentage mix of quartz, mica and
feldspar. Black granite is known as an Anorthosite. It contains
very little quartz and feldspar and has a different composition
than true granite. Fined grained granites are often more
absorbent than others; however, they are all extremely durable.
Orlando granites should be sealed to protect against water and
oil-based spills. Flamed/thermal granite can be enhanced and
protected by using a gentle cleaner. For polished granite
countertops, clean with a polish.
Marble
Marble tile is a natural material that is millions of years old.
Orlando marble is used to produce magnificent tile floors,
kitchen countertops, marble bathroom vanities, tile floors,
Orlando marble wall tile and even columns. It is very important
to use products specifically designed to clean marble such as:
marble cleaners, marble sealers and marble polish.
Metamorphic stone such as marble originates from a
natural change from one type of stone to another type through
the mixture of heat, pressure, and minerals. The change may be a
development of a crystalline formation, a texture change, or a
color change.
Marble: A recrystallized limestone that formed when the
limestone softened from heat and pressure and recrystallized
into marble where mineral changes occurred. The main consistency
of marble is calcium and dolomite. Marble ranges in many colors
and is usually heavily veined. Usually very sensitive to the
wrong cleaning products. Hardness rates from 2.5 to 5 on the MOH
Scale. It is very important to begin taking care of marble from
the beginning with proper stone care products. Restoration is
often required on neglected or improperly treated marble.
Orlando marble is very sensitive to both acid and alkali
cleaners; therefore, it must be protected with a sealer and
cleaned. For bathrooms, use a disinfectant. Glass rings, surface
scratches, dull spots, and shower wall streaks can be repolished
by hand with a polishing cream. Provide additional protection to
marble vanities, tables, countertops, and walls with an
application of a polish and a cleaner. Polished marble floors
should be cleaned and polished. Orlando marble can be polished,
honed, or tumbled. For tumbled marble use an enhancer to
maintain the color.
Marble is classified into three categories: (Stone World)
Dolomite: If it has more than 40% magnesium carbonate.
* Does not provide a high polish; however, it is a very durable
marble.
Magnesian: If it has between 5% and 40% magnesium
carbonate.
* Usually provide a finish with less polish and reflectivity and
are more durable than calcite marbles.
Calcite: If it has less than 5% magnesium carbonate.
* Calcite marbles provide the highest polish; however, they are
more sensitive to acids and alkali chemicals.
Limestone
Limestone tile is a natural material that is millions of years
old. Orlando limestone is used to produce magnificent kitchen
countertops, limestone bathroom vanities, tile floors, limestone
wall tile and even columns. It is very important to use products
specifically designed to clean Orlando limestone such as:
limestone cleaners and limestone sealers.
Sedimentary stone came from organic elements such as
glaciers, rivers, wind, oceans, and plants. Tiny sedimentary
pieces broke off from these elements and accumulated to form
rock beds. They were bonded through millions of years of heat
and pressure. Most sedimentary stones are extremely absorbent;
therefore, they must be protected and maintained with proper
cleaning products.
Limestone: Mainly consists of calcite and some magnesium. It
does not show much graining or crystalline structure. It has a
smooth granular surface that is usually honed; however, some
dense magnesium based limestones can be polished. Varies in
hardness. Common colors are black, grey, white, yellow or brown.
It is more likely to stain than marble. Limestone is known to
contain lime from sea water. Limestone is extremely popular due
to its natural earth-tone colors that coordinate in any
environment.
Ceramic
Orlando ceramic tile and Orlando porcelain tile are used to
produce magnificent kitchen tile floors, kitchen tile
countertops, bathroom tile, vanities, and tile floors. Orlando
ceramic floor tile and ceramic wall tile look their finest when
they are cared for properly. It is very important to use
products specifically designed to clean tile cleaners and tile
sealers.

Keeping Your
Orlando Granite Beautiful: Do
It Yourself Granite Care
With proper granite care, your Orlando granite countertops will
look like new for years to come. Cleaning granite is actually
quite easy because, unlike marble, granite is a relatively hard,
non- porous, natural stone and is relatively unaffected by most
chemicals. Although, most harsh chemicals should not be used for
cleaning granite as there are many more simple and mild ways to
keep your Orlando granite countertops beautiful.
Cleaning granite with powders, and strong detergent products
that contain lemon, or acids can dull your polished Orlando
granite countertops. Easy granite care that creates a
streak-free shine requires you to clean your Orlando granite
countertops with neutral, mild, vegetable oil-based cleaners.
Granite care also requires you to regularly dust your Orlando
granite countertops to bring out shine.
When cleaning granite, pick up any spill as quickly as you can
get to it. You shouldn’t rub the spill; just blot it. Next, use
few drops of neutral cleaner, stone soap, or a mild liquid dish
washing detergent or warm water. Too much cleaner or soap may
leave a film and cause streaks on your Orlando granite
countertops. You also must always use a clean rag. After using
the soap solution for cleaning granite, Orlando granite
countertops should be rinsed properly.
If dealing with staining on your Orlando granite countertops,
keep in mind that lighter
colored granite will be more prone to staining than
darker granite. Products
such as coffee, red wine, cooking oils, butter, lemon juice,
tomatoes, and anything else acidic cause the most damage.
Granite care here again requires wiping spills immediately to
help avoid most potential staining. To help repel stains, Jensen
Stoneworks seals your Orlando granite countertops with a
penetrating sealer before installation. You should periodically
re-seal your Orlando granite countertops.
Because Jensen Stoneworks prides itself on customer
satisfaction, their professional staff is on hand to answer all
of your granite care questions. The Jensen Stoneworks staff is
